The Alps - finished

Well, here it is, finally finished. There are parts that still bother me but I think that that will be the case with ALL of my paintings. It's the hazard of being a perfectionist. :P I have no idea what I should call it. Any ideas? :)

  1. I absolutely love it! I was just thinking how Mt. Green this time of year could compare to the Alps, but after seeing this I am reminded of both their beauty and grandeur! Did you add the stream in or was it in the photo? Among other things, I love the flowers in the foreground...

  2. Thanks, Amy. Yeah, I added the stream... Is it obvious? The stream I used had a good friend of mine on a bridge in the background. ;) You might recognize the photo... Glad you like the flowers. Most of them were in the photo but it needed a few more.

  3. Fabulous work Sandi. You know this but for those admiring this work, it's the Lauterbrunnen Valley south of Interlaken, Switzerland. The stream, possibly the Lutschinen is glacier melt and run off from the Aletschglacier which is a huge 22 mile long 800' deep glacier formed in three high valleys. I've sat beside that stream at Stechelberg and day dreamed many times. The peaks are the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. One of the long ribbon falls is the Staubbachfalle. I call it Roger. The highest railway in Europe originates at Wengen in the same valley and climbs all the way to the Jungfraujoch. It uses a big cog and gears it's way up the steep inclines. In the same area is the Trummelbachfalle. One of the two places in the world accessible by the public where you can see (and feel) a huge waterfall INSIDE a mountain.

  4. Haha, Gene, you're a walking Alps encyclopedia. I should name this painting some long, German name in your honor. ;)
